The 10,008,230 people who chose to vote for the candidate they believed in, despite that candidate not belonging to the two primary parties in the current United States, did not win or lose the election for any other candidate.
However, the 91,737,344 people that did not vote could have made a terrific impact, in any direction.
Make a difference. People have died for your right to vote. Every single group of people that can vote, had to fight for it, even the white males that founded the country.
Beyond, just voting for anyone or the least offensive candidate, take this civic duty seriously and understand who you want to lead and why. There is no obligation to a two party system, especially when the back and forth between the two of them has lead the United States to the condition where people are divided and disinterested in the concerns of their neighbors because everyone must fight for self preservation. The government has not served the interest of the people, rather it has served the interest of two parties that have maintained a hierarchy of the wealthy, those who have resources, controlling and concentrating all resources, over everyone else.
Abraham Lincoln was left off the ballot in 10 southern states in the 1860 election. He won but had to be written in by many voters. Lincoln would be the first Republican president. The Republicans were originally a voice in the Democratic-Republicans, the party of Thomas Jefferson and wealthy interests. When the party split, the Democrats kept the face of the party and continued to uphold practices to support wealth control, like Slavery. Republicans also supported the continuation of Slavery and chose Abraham Lincoln to run for president over others who were abolishionist. The Civil War concerned great interest in the individuals’ rights and Civil Rights for all people. The Republicans were able to end the war by conceding to Slavery Abolishion. With wealth concentrating in the Republican and Democratic Parties, once the Republicans gained notoriety and had perceived interest in protecting individual rights, the two parties with shared interest in maintaining the wealth hierarchy could control politics and perpetuate a false narrative about the two party system being necessary and unbreakable.
In UK politics, the parties are currently shifting dramatically. The Conservative party just lost positioning as the leading party dropping 244 seats.
The person with the most amount of write-in votes for US President in American history is Mickey Mouse. You can vote for anyone. Vote for someone you believe in. Use your power wisely. This is a perilous time to use a placeholder.
